MICHAEL SNIEZEK It is with deep sorrow that our family announces the passing of our beloved husband, father, brother and grandfather, Michael Sniezek, who passed away peacefully on Friday, October 25, 2002 at age 82. Michael is survived by his loving family, his wife Jean of 54 years, his daughter Eleanor Kozier (Dennis), his son Joseph, his sisters, Jennifer and Adelynne; and his grandchildren, Christopher, Michael and Daniel Kozier and Grace Sniezek. Michael was predeceased by his parents, Klemens and Emilia Sniezek; his sister Rose; and brother Joseph. Michael was born and raised in Winnipeg. He attended Faraday, Isaac Newton and Margaret Scott schools and graduated from St. Johns High School. He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force for four years during the Second World War, and was stationed in London, England and Northern Ireland as an armourer from May 1943 to Augusut 1945. He shared many of his overseas stories with his children and grandchildren. Following the war he returned to Canada, married, raised his family and worked for Canada Post for 31 years, also serving as Secretary-Treasurer of the staff Fishing Club and organizing many fishing trips. During the 1950s and 60s he also volunteered with the Winnipeg Emergency Measures Organization. He retired from Canada Post in 1978 and then became a Commissionaire at the Canadian Department of Fisheries for five years. Subsequently he enjoyed retirement and especially valued visiting with his grandchildren, who referred to him as "The Champ." He was a member of St. John Cantius Roman Catholic Church for all his life and an active member of the Knights of Columbus. Prayers will be held on Tuesday, October 29 at 2:30 p.m. in the afternoon at St. John Cantius Roman Catholic Church, 846 Burrows Ave. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 30 at 10:30 a.m. at the church with Rev. Fr. Henryk Uczniak officiating, followed by Interment at the Garden of Ascension, Assumption Cemetery, 3990 Portage Ave. Donations in Michaels memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
